What is Bikeability?

Bikeability is a national cycling award scheme which incorporates the National Cycle Training Standard. There are three Bikeability levels which are taught progressively, ensuring that the trainee has the necessary skills at each stage:

Level 1 is for people who cannot cycle at all and those still learning basic skills such as balancing, manoeuvring, looking and signalling. This course is delivered off-road away from traffic.

Level 2 is for people who are able to ride a bike, but with limited experience of the road, or a lack of confidence when cycling in traffic and undertaking common manoeuvres. This course takes place on quiet roads.

Level 3 is for people who cycle regularly and competently and are ready to tackle busier and faster roads and complex junctions. Route planning is an important element of the Level 3 course.

Cycle training is beneficial for everybody, regardless of current ability. Our training courses are designed to facilitate measured improvement in your cycling, whether you are an absolute beginner, want some encouragement to get back into cycling, or have been riding everyday for years. We tailor each session to take into account the varying learning outcomes of our trainees. Whatever you require, our instructors are on hand to help out and make your cycling experience as enjoyable as possible.

"At first I was a bit scared of going on the road but now I’m confident because of the techniques you taught me. From now on I’m going to bike wherever I go."
