One-to-one

One-to-one training is perfect for you if:

  • You are a complete beginner
  • You like to learn at your own pace
  • You want to learn and practice cycling a specific route

We offer one-to-one training to adults and children of all abilities. You may find that you fit into one of the following categories. If not, then contact us and let us know how we can cater for your specific needs:

“I’m a complete beginner and have no experience of cycling” (Level 1)

Not a problem, we can teach you how to ride a bike, whatever your age and however unlikely you think you are to succeed. First we’ll get you riding independently, and then move on to other basic skills. One-to-one sessions are ideal for complete beginners and will take place in a safe, off-road environment until you feel confident to ride on the road. We can organise bike provision for you if you do not have one of your own, or can give you advice on buying a new one.

“What a good idea. Cycle training is just the right thing for me to get back into cycling and give me confidence on the road.” (Levels 1/ 2)

Great, then dig out your bike and brush off the dust! Perhaps you are a parent and want to cycle with your child; a student, new to Cambridge, or a commuter hoping to save on fuel bills... whatever your motive, we can help you to get you back into cycling at your own pace. The sessions can be tailored to your requirements, helping you to build confidence and learn the skills to ride safely on the road.

“I’m a steady cyclist but don’t have the confidence to go near large roundabouts or on busy roads” (Levels 2/ 3)

Many cyclists are happy to negotiate quiet roads and simple manoeuvres, but feel nervous about tackling busier roads and more complicated traffic situations. We will advise you on how to judge these situations and make confident, correct decisions to keep you safe on the road. We can also tailor the training to follow you on a specific route that you may do on a regular basis (e.g. to work and back).

“I’m an excellent rider, why do I need training?”(Level 3)

Few cyclists ride faultlessly, and having an instructor analyse your style can be hugely beneficial to your safety and your confidence. We assess your actions and give feedback and advice on how to reduce risk, make speedy progress in traffic, and improve your anticipation and perception of hazards. We can tailor training to encompass a specific route that you may do on a regular basis (e.g. to work and back) giving you advice and guidance.

"The instructor was very professional and systematic - explaining things slowly and carefully to be sure that my son understood. By the end of the lesson, he was cycling down a nearby gentle slope, with confidence and enthusiasm I never thought possible!"
