Instructor Training

Outspoken Training is one of only 17 Instructor Training Organisations (ITOs) approved by the Department for Transport. This makes us qualified to deliver National Standard Instructor (NSI)and National Standard Assistant Instructor (NSAI) training courses to individuals and organisations. We deliver regular scheduled courses in Cambridge (see below for upcoming dates). We also deliver in other areas when required, to support our Bikeability scheme partners through the ITO.

Upcoming Course Dates

  • 22 & 23 and 29 & 30 Mar 12 Cambridge (NSI)
  • 8 & 9 Mar 12 Cambridge (NSAI)

If you'd like to come on the course, please get in touch and we will send you further details and a booking form.

The course

The NSI is a four-day course which will give you a thorough grounding in how to teach children and adults to the National Standard. The course is a mixture of classroom sessions and outdoor practicals, covering all of the subjects and skills you will need to become a National Standard Cycle Instructor.

The NSAI is a two day course designed for those who may not want to commit to the full four days of training or who will use the qualification less regularly. Assistant Instructors will work alongside full instructors in delivering Bikeability courses.

Cost

The full NSI course costs £495 +VAT which also includes two Post Course Assessments to take you from provisional to full accreditation.

The Assistant instructor course costs £195 +VAT.

Rather than an upfront charge, we occasionally offer this course for free in exchange for some unpaid work as an instructor. Please get in touch if you would be interested in this arrangement.

What are the Benefits of becoming a Cycle Training Instructor?

Fully qualified Cycle Training Instructors are able to deliver National Standard Cycle Training courses. These courses aim to teach trainees to ride competently on the road for leisure, transport or training. Qualified instructors may work for registered schemes to deliver Bikeability courses, thus benefiting from funding available for the delivery of Bikeability.

Who can attend?

Yes, you're eligible to attend if:

  • You are at least 18 years of age
  • You are a regular on road cyclist, who is confident riding in traffic

What will I learn?

The course prepares you to work as a Cycle Training Instructor, either for Outspoken Training or another Bikeability provider.

"I would like to say that it's been really BRILLIANT. Rob and Lisa gave such v. good structured feedback - always building confidence by emphasising the positive then adding what I needed to work on. Realistic and fun too. A Big Thankyou!"
